I know that many of you guys will be asking, "Why on earth would anyone compare the Kindle DX to the iPad?" The truth is, this comparison came out when I was considering getting myself a Kindle e-book reader. It was also around the same time when the iPad was revealed to the public.

After taking one glace at the Apple iPad, I thought that it looks just like an e-book reader! After discovering that the iPad's price starts from 9, I began to seriously consider my purchase of the Kindle DX or any other e-book reader for that matter (by the way I would just like to say that the 6-inch Kindle is great and all, but it is just a little too small for me). The Kindle DX is currently retailing at 9 per unit.

Both the Kindle DX and Apple iPad have a 9.7-inch display screen but there is where the similarities end. The iPad screen is a full-colored touch screen while the one of the DX is not. The screen on the DX makes use of the electronic-ink technology that simulates the looks of real paper.

At first glance it may seem that there is no way that the DX can compare to the new Apple product. The iPad can be used to not only read e-books (e-magazines, newspaper, etc) in full color, but also to surf the web, listen to music and have access to all the applications on the Apple Apps store. The Kindle DX on the other hand seems to be a plain-old e-book reader.

If you are looking for an e-book reader that can do a whole lot of other things, it is of no doubt that the Apple iPad will make an excellent buy. On the other hand, if you are a hardcore reader and would like to have an e-book reader specifically dedicated to reading books or magazines, the Amazon Kindle DX would be the perfect device for that purpose. Although I personally have not had the chance to use the iPad yet, I highly suspect that it will be more comfortable to read on the Kindle for prolonged periods of time thanks to the nature of its screen. The DX is also much more 'portable' with its very long battery life (up to 2 weeks on one charge).
